Hotheads Application Tips

Always leave enough hair at the perimeter of the hairline to cover the tabs should the client want to pull their hair up.

Always place the extensions in the direction of the hair growth making sure the hair lays down in the natural growth pattern.

Depending on your client's hair density and desired effect, spacing between the tabs may vary.

As you brick-lay the extensions, you will automatically fill in any space, eliminating the need to cut the extension tabs. Making the extensions shorter in width will break the adhesive seal and could cause the tabs to flip and damage the client's hair. Tampering with the tape tabs voids their warranty.

Keep an eye out for any separations or splits in the client's natural hair growth. Apply the tabs around them to avoid any possibility of the tabs showing, mostly in the top rows.

Hotheads Stylist Feature: Lindsey Carse

Lindsey Carse has been doing extensions for the last 11 years, she knew that extensions were going to be her focus. After graduating high school, Lindsey moved to California to attend Vidal Sasson Academy. She continued her education and pursed an apprenticeship in the Mecca of the hair world, Beverly Hills.

For a short time, Lindsey traveled with big names in the music industry doing their hair for all their shows. Knowing that her dream was not yet for filled. She came back to Beverly Hills and opened the doors to Fringe of Beverly Hills, A Lindsey Carse Salon. Here, Lindsey lead a team of amazing, accomplished stylists who are more family than employees. Now, after 2 years of her name on the window, Lindsey has opened a second location in Santa Monica and started her own product line! In Lindsey's words, "I strive to be the best, therefore I make sure to use the best, especially when it comes to extensions!"

HH: When did you discover that you wanted a career in the beauty industry?

LC: I started working as the towel girl in an Aveda Spa and Salon in Billings, MT at the age of 15. It was while working there I fell in love with hair and knew this was the profession for me!

HH: What your favorite Hotheads Hair Extension color?

LC: Honestly, #23 has to be my favorite. It seems to be such a universal blonde color that is perfect for highlights and blends.

HH: Is there anyone that you would like to work with whom you haven't yet?

LC: I would love to work with Oribe. I think he is an amazing editorial stylist!

HH: Do you think this is a skill that successful beauty professionals are born with or is it one that can to be cultivated and perfected?

LC: I would have to say it is a little of both. I feel like there is a lot of art that goes into hair, that artistic eye and ability combined with a well educated and developed craft is what makes a not only a successful beauty professional, but a great one!

HH: How can young men and women who are aspiring to work in the beauty industry begin their journey?

LC: Jumping right into the education of the industry is important. But also I would tell them to immediately do an apprenticeship right out of school to hone in on their talents.

HH: What are some career goals that people should set for themselves before attempting a career in beauty?

LC: I say gaining as much knowledge as possible! Never get stagnant. So doing things from assisting under advance stylist, to continuing education classes, to pushing yourself to try new techniques.

HH: What is the hardest part about working in beauty?

LC: We are not magicians and trying to convey to some people that the look they want is impossible.

HH: Who has inspired you the most throughout your career in beauty?

LC: Vidal Sasson! He not only was a huge inspiration but where I got my training.

HH: How can girls highlight their best features without going overboard?

LC: I think subtle changes are key. May it be length to shape the face, highlights to give dimension, color to make the eyes pop, etc. Each person has their own unique features that there is not one general answer.

HH: Why do you think you decided to become a hair stylist?

LC: I enjoy making people happy and as a hairstylist we become their confidant and help make them look their best.

HH: What inspires you? Who inspires you?

LC: What inspires me are my clients, for they are "canvas." While it is my husband and my staff that are who inspire me.

HH: What are some good tips for young people trying to break into the industry?

LC: My advise, watch The Devil Wears Prada. (work hard, don't give up, and HUSTLE)

HH: How do you feel hair relates to personal style?

LC: It is everything. Most people care more about who does their hair than who their doctor is. Your hair is your security blanket and your first expression of yourself.

HH: How do you think that hair relates to a person's confidence?

LC: I think it plays a large roll! Just as it defines your style, if it does or does not reflect who you are, it can greatly affect a person's confidence.
